The Project

Project Partners

The Maitreya Project is proud to have engaged the following major companies - all of them leaders in their fields - to bring this great project to completion.

AROS

AROS, the lead architect for the Maitreya Project, was formed in 2001 by an enthusiastic team who, whilst previously working at Whinney Mackay Lewis, won the international architectural competition for the Project.

The Project's concept design and master planning continues to be developed by AROS. The AROS studio is also providing advice to the art programme, materials research and strategical advice.

AROS is a design studio keen to develop a diverse portfolio of work with clients where cross-fertilisation of ideas between architects, artists, sculptors, craftsman, engineers and constructors can be developed into reality.

Given the complexities of the design of the Maitreya Project, the AROS studio is developing enormous experience in inter-operability and extranet communication - the ability to communicate and execute a construction project via an intelligent, 3-D, fully developed computer model.

Mott MacDonald

Mott MacDonald logoAs Project Managers for the Maitreya Project, Mott MacDonald has overall responsibility for co-ordinating the whole design and construction process. This will include control of the programme, cost and quality within the parameters set down in the Project brief.

Castings Development Centre

The Maitreya Project requires 5,000-7,000 panels to be produced as castings - each with a different geometry! It would be prohibitively expensive to manufacture a pattern for each geometry, and then to make the sand mould into which metal would be cast. The Castings Development Centre (CDC) in Sheffield, England, has come up with a 'custom-designed' technology ideally suited to Maitreya Project's needs. CDC has a large-scale machining system which can cut the moulds directly from blocks of moulding sand. And it can do this automatically from a 3-D model of the part held in a computer.
