Geshe Chekawa

Geshe Chekawa was born in Tibet in 1220.
He is famous for his perfection of Thought Transformation which he studied with his teacher, Sharawa, for 14 years. Thought Transformation teachings concern renunciation, bodhicitta (the empowering attitude that motivates the practitioner to achieve enlightenment solely for the benefit of others), and right view (the true nature of reality). They give special instructions on how to deal with problems in daily life by using them on the path to enlightenment. Unfavourable conditions are thereby transformed into a method to benefit all living beings. They become the cause for the happiness of all.
When he was dying at the age of 75 years, he lamented, saying, “I have prayed to go to the place called Hell Without Respite for the sake of helping the beings who live there, but this is not going to happen; instead, I am having visions of
the Pure Lands!”
Relic and Source

- Geshe Chekawa’s relic came from a family living in Lhasa, Tibet who salvaged it from a stupa that was destroyed during the invasion of Tibet by China.
