Chokgyur Lingpa (Chöling) Tertön

The terma teachings were said to have been hidden by Padmasambhava in caves and in the minds of his close disciples. They were sealed with his sacred aspiration to be revealed at certain times for the benefit of future generations by a tertön, a treasure revealer, a reincarnation of one of the close disciples and an emissary of Padmasambhava himself.

One of these incarnated tertöns was Chokgyur Lingpa born in 1828 in the eastern part of Tibet. His name, birth place, the chief recipients of his revealed teachings and the effect of the spread of his teachings were all prophesied by Padmasambhava.

Chokgyur Lingpa the First was the thirteenth reincarnation of Trisong Deutsen's son, Lhasey Lotsawa, who incarnated thirteen times in succession as a tertön, or revealer of Guru Padmasambhava's secret hidden texts. He was very close to Jamyang Khyentse the Great. At the age of twenty-seven, he presented a sater of the Tukdrub Barchey Künsel to Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo who announced that he had himself received almost an identical text in the form of a gongter. The two termas were combined as the Tukdrub Barchey Künsel and hence, is common to both lamas. Subsequently, Chokgyur Lingpa discovered many termas which are gathered together as the cycle of the Chokling Tersar, a compilation of all the empowerments, textual authorisations, and oral instructions of Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava).

This relic was personally offered to Morgann Bryant by His Holiness Dudjom Rinpoche before his death. Ms Bryant offered the relic in Santa Fe, New Mexico during a relic event in 2002
